I would like to applaud the positions taken by both candidates for the Democratic Party nomination, on the AIDS pandemic, both at home and globally.
Contrast this with John McCain cited today in the NY Times:
"MCCain Stumbles on HIV Prevention"

We need to come together as a Party to define where we stand on an issue that is tearing communities apart, here at home and abroad, and to clarify how that differs from the conservative Republican agenda.
Let us not lose the focus on the issues that affect the lives of millions. If you get a chance today, take a look at part 4 of the award winning multimeida series from the Florida Sun-Sentinel on HIV/AIDS. Part 4 addresses the plight of AIDS Orphans: http://www.sun-sentinel2.com/graphics/AI

-in Florida and the Caribbean islands of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Our neighbors in the Caribbean, and people right here at home who are infected or affected by the pandemic need us to take a strong stand, increase the efforts to wipe out this disease, and address the status of orphaned children who in some cases don't even have water or a place to sleep.
Since heterosexual transmission is the primary vector of the disease globally, and infections of women here at home are the fastest growing group of new HIV cases, are we going to allow a party that promotes "abstinence" into the White House for 4 more years?
